whats the best way to get all the gasket crap off from the block..

 

About the only way is a scraper. Main thing is to stuff rags down in the cylinders to keep, the trash out. Places sell gasket scrapers, I have always used putty knifes, with no problems. After scraping, I usually use a fine scotch brite pad to cleanup. Finally wipe down with acetone, MEK, before putting new gasket in place.

 

A plastic ruler will also work without chewing up the deck.
