last year for F150 solid front axle?

Hey guys I'm trying to figure out what the last year was for the F150 to have a solid front axle in the 4x4 of course. I'm wanting to have a nice off road truck and the solid front is a must.

1979 was the last year for the solid front axle. These trucks had Dana 44's btw. From 1980-1996 they used the TTB front end.

what size tire are you planning on running? anything over 37's with hard use id go with Dana 60's... i may be starting a SAS in the next couple of weeks. i'll be using a D44 as i wont be going any larger than 37's...

I would expect 37's. It's not too big and not too small. I may just find a junk yard F350 front axle and attempt a SAS.

make sure to find a kingpin axle as the balljoint axles(old) or unit bearing axles(new) are weaker. for the earlier fords a sas is pretty easy from what i have seen(weld hangers onto the frame to mount leafs and then just figure out steering). I also think that a f350 axle from the same year truck is usually a bolt in deal. However keep an eye out for the Dana 50 axle as they came in 250 and 350 trucks. They are a Dana 44 with Dana 60 outers, are hard to find parts for and bascialy as strong as a Dana 44.
