Talking 460 in a 86 F150????

Okay, So im about to get an 86 F150(5.0L, single cab, short bed, 2WD) but this 302 is pretty much gone So my question is how hard will it be to swap out this 302 and the AOD tranny to a 460 and maybe a E4OD or C-6. My Buddy has a 460 off a 79 f150...If this is possible I will most likely jus slap a carb and be done with it....Any taughts will be greatly appreciated

PS I know I will have to change the fuel pump if I put a carb, anything else I should look at??

Your family must own a Gas Station? Cool! C-6 was stock on 79's w/ auto trans.

Yep, I really aught to get my 87 back going... Just need to finish the rear end in it.

Those trucks with 460's in them weigh 3600lbs.... That is LIGHT for a truck. 600hp in a 3600lb truck will move.

Very doable! So is your gas station open late on Sundays? Alot of em are closing early nowadays! Don"t punk out on the Ignition system and bump the timing to at least 13.5BTDC! http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump They like this too http://performanceunlimited.com/docu...degapping.html

doesn't really matter. My 87 had an i6/c6 combo. Just use different engine mounts... same tranny crossmember, same drive shaft, etc.

It's no big deal at all.

Many many trucks ago I had my 86 that I wanted a 460 in it. Now I am older and still want a 460 in a 86 but I can't do it until I get the 67 done, one project at a time.

The E4OD will not run without a computer. A standalone controller is available from Baumann. http://www.becontrols.com/

Otherwise save yourself some grief and go with the C6

The 8.8' rear end will be debated forever. The biggest problem is the weak carrier. Consider an Eaton limited slip, a Detriot Truetrac or a Detroit Locker. Any one of them will improve your traction and eliminate the weak stock carrier. Or you could convert to a 9"

I ran an 8.8 in mine. If you plan on slapping slicks and launching off a trans-brake I would go ahead and put a 9" in it.

very easy swap just save yourself the headache and hassle and go with the c6 though and look for an after market ign I beleive there is one on ebay from procomp for around $300 with everything you need gas really is all that bad aslong as you keep it off the floor also have you gave ne thought to headers (with the gas prices up its good to see someone else not afraid to go bigblock)
