So I fixed the intermittent wiper problem by resoldering the board. While doing that I took the top part of the dash that secures the instrument cluster off and noticed that there warning or information lights missing (4X4, low range, ABS, etc...). There seems to be 8 spots for lights, 4 on each side of the steering column. My left side had two missing and it didn't even look like there was anything in the holes to put a bulb into. So I'm assuming that the original owner took the lights out instead of actually fixing the problems that were causing the lights to be on, but maybe not.Can anyone tell me if all of the slots should actually be filled with bulbs for my 87 F150 Lariat 5.8L 4X4? Also, when I turn the key to start the engine, should all the working bulbs in the cluster light up? Only one or two lights come on when I turn the key. I can't seem to find any pictures or info regarding this on the web. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

 

The panel is generic to accommodate all options for existing models & items projected to be required in the future. The bulbs are installed for items specific to your truck. I believe my 87' 2wd lights up Engine, abs, Battery & brake. The transmission isn't computer integrated on 87's.

 

Read your owner's manual. The 4x4 & LOW lights are only used for an ESOF t-case. Your ABS light should work. Which are the ones that DON'T have bulbs &/or DON'T come on?
