what does a hotter coil do?

It insures the H.C."s don't make the trip out of the tail pipe, It's not that particular how. This is a way to more efficiently transfer fuel energy into horsepower while maintaining the Emission Control System's mandated 14.68:1 air/fuel ratio! A win/win kinda thing.
