Difficulty starting the truck

1988 F150 4wd with 302 motor.

When I turn the ignition key, it cranks the starter slowly or I just hear a click and the starter does not turn.

1. It's not the battery. I had it tested at the battery place and they said it's fine. Plus I tried a new battery that's fully charged - same problem.

2. Not the alternator. Same battery place tested the alternator and said it's fine.

3. I don't believe it's the starter motor. I hooked up the positive battery post directly to the power from the starter, and it turns just fine. Is this a valid test?

What's the next thing I need to look at?

Problem fixed. It was the starter relay (solenoid.)
