Bought a '93 F150

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, and my names Steve. I'll start off with saying that I bought a '93 F150 Regular Cab, Short Box 6 cyl, Stick shift this past weekend. It does have 4 wheel drive. I bought the truck for 600 dollars off my old manager. He used it as a winter beater when he didn't wanna try his stang. I've always wanted one of these trucks since my dad had a '91 XLT Lariat that he bought the year I was born (1990). It looks like it might have a leak from the transmission/transfer case gasket. I'm hopefully taking it in tomorrow to have it checked out and inspected. The previous owner said the 4WD does work, but after I lock the manual hubs and try to shift into 4 wheel, the light does not come on. I called and talked to him and he said the light doesn't always work, but the 4wd always does. I'm not sure how to tell if 4wd is engaged or not. Anyone have any input on this? Also, it wont shift into Neutral or 4L. Idk if I'm just shifting wrong or something. Anyways, onto the pics; not bad for a 600 truck I don't think... but a lot of rust.

O and yea, he swapped in a mint '91 Red interior, except for the stock '93 beige dash. Thanks for any help in advance!

yup you can drive it and you'll notice the difference between 2 and 4 wheel drive. or you could move the lever to whatever position and get out and with the hubs free turn the front driveshaft, if 4x4(H or L) is engaged then it wont turn. and are you pushing the shifter down to go into 4L?

Yea I'm trying to push it down to go into 4L, but I can't even get it into neutral. I don't know how hard to push, I don't wanna break anything lol. I tried engaging 4H today and I'm pretty sure I felt the difference. I just don't know why I can't get it anything else, not like I tow anything with it anyways. I was just kinda curious. I'm actually thinking about selling this and picking up a '94 XLT with a 302, Reg. Cab and an 8ft bed. However, it's only 2wd, and I live in buffalo, so winter might be a bitch. I'm used to driving my old fwd hondas.. But I figure if I do, if I lift it and throw some more aggressive tires on it, it should help quite a bit right? Anyone else have any input on driving a long bed 2wd in the winter?

Put snow tires on it and throw a few hundred pounds of stuff in the bed.

Put 300 lbs of sand bags in the bed. If you ever get stuck, open a bag and use it for traction. Then replace it.

Would have never have thought about using the sand for traction, hell of a good idea. Thanks man, that makes a lot of sense lol.

Well guys got a noob question for you. There's a local guy selling 4 33x12.50x15 tires mounted on rims that'll fit my truck for $300 with about 1/3 tread left. What would I need to make these fit? It is a 4wd truck, would just the 2.5" or 3" leveling kit work? Also the tires are BFG Mud Terrains. Any ideas on if this is a good deal or not? Thanks.

You should go ask this in the Wheel and brake section. Wandell is usually in there and he's really good at the wheel and tire fitment on most trucks.

Got another random question for you guys. My truck only cam with one windshield washer nozzle, and the reservoir wouldn't hold any fluid. i bought some new nozzle and wen to put them in and check the reservoir, and I noticed that the fluid is coming out of a little nipple in the bottom, that's coming off of the side where an electrical connector goes into. Two things; Is that cylinder the electrical plug plugs into the washer pump? and, where should that nipple hook up to? the washer nozzle? Please help, i know this is kinda a random question, but i hate having a dirty windshield and its driving me nuts. thanks!

33s will fit no lift if you space out your front bumper just a bit with some washers between the bumper and the frame horn. I'd talk him down to 200, as l've had a few better deals before. Be sure to inspect the tires closely inside for cuts and holes. Plugs done properly are ok.

It's known for the 92+ shifter mechanism to crack and fill with water/rust and not let neutral or low range engage. But it's an improvement over the 88-91 shifters. Not hard to swap out with a junkyard part.
