clicking when A/C is on

clicking when A/C is on

got a 1993 XLT 4X4, when i turn on the AC there is a clicking that is coming from the compressor. the AC works great and the clicking goes away if i turn off the AC.

Any Ideas

That is your compressor turning on and off, That is normal.

If it's cycling more than 1x per minute, it's either over- or undercharged. Take it to a pro for diagnosis & repair. The only thing I recommend you check is the clutch gap (when everything is OFF), which depends on the style of compressor:

its a constant "tick,tick,tick" it does it when i have the AC on. Again the AC works great. Almost sounds like there is something in there that is hitting something else when the AC is turned on. Its a constant tick and it stops when AC is turned off.

I will be taking to AC shop later in the winter as its not to important now.

If it is constant it could be a few things, Like Steve said Over or Under charged or your compressor is low on oil, I would let a professional handle this one.

Sounds like your charge is on the low side & it's pissing off the low pressure switch.
