I recently changed the oil in my 1995 F150 4.9L and for some reason the dipstick is showing that I have double the amount of oil I should in the engine. I drained practically all of it out and it's still reading overfilled. I know I drained the oil and not some other fluid. Also when i drive the truck is sluggish and I'm not getting full power. Please help! I'm afraid I might be damaging the crankcase.

 

I just realized that the coolant is mixing with the oil. I was wondering why the radiator coolant reservoir was always bone dry. A day after filling it, it would empty out again. Afraid it might be the head gasket now.

I'm not getting any of the symptoms of a blown head gasket though...

- No leak spots on my driveway
- Oil cap is the color of oil and not milky white
- Spark plugs are clean
- Drained oil appears to be oil only

Anyone think it might be a cracked block? Are the symptoms of that similar to a head gasket?

 

If you were getting water in the oil either from a cracked block or head, it would come out first when you drain it.

The oil drain plug faces the R side just behind the crossmember under the engine, and the oil dipstick is yellow, like the oil fill cap's markings. Read these captions:
