1993 Flareside!

My kingcab F-150 has 240,000 as of today. It is my work horse of a truck. The body has paint overspray all over it, holes in the fiberglass rear body, a custom built ladder rack, and has had just about everything replaced to keep it running. I can't even give it away with the gas prices these days and after all of the money and replaced parts that I spent on it, how can I let this truck go to get a newer one?

My worst problem was when I trusted a local repair shop to install a remanufactured engine in it just 10,000 miles ago. They raked me for $9k in over 3 months (other under the hood parts failing) and that is when the real trouble started. That motor blew in under 3,000 miles on it. Another used motor went in it (by another shop I trust), which lasted 5,000 miles and was running great, when the oil pump failed and seized that motor.

I found another remanufactured motor company online (remanufactured.com), bought the motor, had it shipped (6 weeks later), had it installed by a trusted engine installer (50 years experience) and as soon as the motor was started up, that motor had the shims incorrectly installed at the rebuild shop which caused my mechanic to fix it before I could use it.

This motor went 5K on it before a rocker arm broke, as I was at idle speed waiting at a red light. Dang the luck! My mechanic repaired the problem before it got to far and now I am waiting for something else to go wrong! During the past 3 years of these problems, I never realized how screwed over I got from the original shop.

I discovered that a tow truck driver that worked there, had the exact same model, year , color and all, of an F-150 flareside kingcab that I have. It never dawned on me to check every part on my truck before I had it towed to that shop. As it turned out, and I mean a very serious situation here, is that my truck had every part that was good on it, taken off and replaced from the guy that had the identical truck! The bad guys were taking 5 weeks to replace a motor as I worked 14 hour shifts at night. I could never catch them during the day because I had to sleep. The motor should have been replaced in under 5 days!

The motor, tranny, power steering pump, shocks, intake manifold, and even my tires that still had 40k miles of tread left on them! Not to mention my cruise control motor, windsheild wiper motor, and only God knows what else is missing that I have yet to find!

And heck NO...... it is not an old F-150 just falling apart. I maintained my truck better than most people do. Now I am stuck with this F-150 forever! I spent over $25,000 SINCE THAT DAY! I could have bought 2 used trucks for that much money! Or 1 brand new one!

My advice? Never rebuild a FORD motor!

How rediculous. Sounds like you tried to hald do everything and ended up paying for it in the end.

And your advice sucks, by the way.

BTW........ my wife went a traded her Chevy Impala for the Brand New 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. It has all the Options on it and she gets a $1,700 tax break on it to boot! There is not a better Hybrid on the market!

Did you ever go back and ask the original shop wtf? What did they say the reason was for it taking so long when you finally picked it up? And I do not agree with your advice about not rebuilding Ford engines by the way. Ford had nothing to do with this. It was the poeple you had working on it jacking you over.

Sparkadellic reply!

You are right about the shop being part of a WTF..... !!!!

The excuses I was told was the engine sent to replace the old one was from a Mexico shop, and other BS about certain parts were not installed correctly, so they sent it back! Then when it was finally installed, I went 5 blocks driving it and brought it back! The heads were not shimmed and had to be taken apart and fixed. All that did was buy them more time to sabotage my truck. When I got it back, I had only driven 50 miles when the timing gear blew and seized the motor. I had it towed to another shop to find out what happened, and they broke it down and showed me the busted up parts.

There had been 2 or 3 cylinders that had new valvetrain parts and the rest were used. I was real ticked about that and called the shop that did this to me and all I got was more BS, and that I caused the engine to blow! I was screwed from day one, regardless! The gear pin was not secure and caused the gear to "wobble" and throw the camshaft out of sync, which resulted in the top end to blow apart.

My opinion is that in todays economy, if you don't find a dependable engine builder, you will get screwed on any brand of motor! I havce been a Chevy man my whole life. My Dad a Ford man. And now....... I am stuck with my Ford truck until it dies!

My wife just bought a brand new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. I love the car. She does too. I just wish that I had been more careful on choosing the shop to fix my truck in the first place. I could have bought 2 trucks (used) with the money I had to sink back into this one. Or at least a brand new one!
