Help! 88 conked out!
Help! 88 conked out!
Hey guys. Got a puzzle on my hands. Last week, my F150 cokned out at a traffic light. Kaput. Would not start at all. Thought maybe she was out of gas, so put about 2 gallons in. Still nothing. Ended up towing her. Garage hooked up a noid light, said it was weak and fluttering... but the frakkin' thing did light off and ran fine. So... any ideas? Do I have gremlins running amok, or did my spastic gas guages lie and I ran her out of gas?
She did this one other time... but while I was at speed.
EEC crapping out? A short somewhere spoofing the injectors? That crazy selector valve/reservoir giving up?

Buy the oldest Haynes manual you can find & a cheap digital multimeter, and follow the ignition diagnostic procedure for TFI-IV (DI).
The dual-function reservoir will only act up during or shortly after switching tanks. Click my black Bronco in my signature & read the captions in the '84-89 Fuel Reservoirs album.

Well... after behaving herself for a while, she did her little "let's die at the traffic light" trick again. Luckily, she did it at my condo and not the highway. And, we left the trouble ticket open from last time... so here's hoping we find the problem.
