What tranny?

The 4R70W/AODE is rated for 700 ft-lbs at the input shaft but you have to factor out the torque converter so figure on somewhere around 320-350 ft-lbs from the engine. For the E4OD, it's 1000 ft-lbs at the input shaft so somewhere around 450-500 ft-lbs from the engine.

Because of the weak 2 piece input shaft the old AOD was a lot lower, probably somewhere around 300 ft-lbs.

If you can live without the lockup torque converter, put in an upgraded AOD with a one-piece input shaft and all the performance bits and pieces. Properly built an AOD will take whatever you throw at it.

yea. but i would like o/d. i think i might just swap in the heavy duty zf5 if i have a problem with this aod. plus IMO first gear sucks for bottom end with a 302. originally i thought i had an aode but i got looking at it and i have a tv cable and no harness so i assumed it is the aod.

You do not lose the OD with the one-piece shaft, you merely lose the lockup feature. It still has four forward gears. Additionally some of the aftermarket valve bodies allow a WOT 3-4 upshift which the stock valve body will not allow.

Toy need to do some research. Check out Art Carr and Lentech for starters.
