Power on with key off...wtf

Alright so i noticed that when i came out to my truck this morning that my tach light and my other gauges were lit when i got in the truck and that my turning signal was turned on. Now im confused pretty bad because the key was turned off and the key was not even in the ignition. Anybody got any ideas on where to start looking? im thinking the ignition switch on the column might be junk buy im not sure.

It would be a LOT easier for us to guess if you mentioned what YEAR (trim level, miles, engine/trans, etc.) truck you're talking about. Put it in your profile so you don't have to retype it each time.

Is the column tilt/cruise? Look at the slot where the blinker stalk comes out of the column. Is the front pointed?

Then the most likely cause is a broken ignition acutator. The upper column has to be disassembled to replace them, but you can check just by removing the plastic column shrouds between the metal ring & the dash. If you can push/pull the ignition switch operating rod enough to turn things on/off, then the actuators are broken.

.

The actuators are available from most parts stores, but they're not much more expensive from Ford.

wouldn't it not start if that actuator was broken? when the actuator broke on my 90 it wouldn't start.

Depends on which one & exactly how it broke. But it only takes removing 1 screw to check.
