chance to buy 1984 f150 - what's it worth? hurry! :)

hi,
there's a 1984 f150 for sale in my area and im wondering how much it is worth. here are the details i know:

1984 standard cab, standard bed
4.9L straight six engine
4spd manual transmission
around 50,000 documented original miles*

*there are service records, registrations, and carfax that show one owner, the owner's manual itself is filled out to show oil changes done in "my driveway" every 3000 miles and coolant changes every 5000 over the years, and it has "polyester" tires (they seem original, or purchased a long time ago).

there is fairly light surface rust in the bed (just on the floor of the bed, not the sides) that looks like it could be sanded right off and repainted.

looking under the vehicle it looks like it's coated with surface rust also. i believe the truck sat for a while (a year or so?) which caused this surface rust to build up. things such as the leaf springs, axles, and other items i saw from beneath the truck seem to be light brown or orange with rust, although it doesn't look terrible or anything... hard to tell though.

im a little "rusty" at driving stick, but it seemed to shift fine and run smoothly, and it started right up even though it was cold.

under the hood the brake booster is rusty (black paint bubbling on lower half and rust other places) but the under-hood area seems -fairly- clean for a 25-year-old car (there's not much under there compared to my 1992 towncar!).

i have the chance to buy this truck from a dealership today, and i was wondering what the members of this forum think a fair price would be. i like it, but i dont want to pay too much.

what's it worth?

thanks,
bill

KBB says excellent condition on that vehicle (Well 1989 KBB doesnt date back past 89) Suggested retail value of 2290 for my local zip code.

I imagine even 2500 wouldn't be a bad deal if its in good shape. We all know those I6 run forever

thanks everyone - i will call in an hour or so and offer them 2500... probably willing to go up to 3000.

when i check it out again tonight, would you recommend looking at anything that might be a concern with an '84?

is it really bad that the brake booster's paint is bubbling off with orangish brown rust underneath? should the leaf springs being mostly brown be a concern? i think ill get the bed sanded and re-painted, but i don't know about the other rust. where do the fuel/brake lines run? are they or any other parts (frame?) prone to rust as well?

Thanks!

Some days I don't care how clean it is... $2500 just seems like a lot to me for a 25 year old vehicle. Max I would give is $1000.

its not really a bad thing that the brake booster is doing that.. could be due to a few things. One it could be just old and the paint is just coming off.. Two is that the master cyl. could have leak at one time and it made it do that.. Might want to check an see if the master cyl is leaking around where it bolts up to the brake booster also.. Its not hard to replace at all..

If i am thing right the fuel lines and the brake lines should run on the frame rail also...

also, is a loose textured rubber floor an option or was a liner possibly placed over the floor to cover up the metal?

most of the time on those year trucks u don't have to use 1st. It just depends on how it is geared.. now for the textured rubber floor some people put them in so it is just easier to clean..

1st gear is more like a low gear for the 4wd.. It is more like granny gear..

thanks very much for all the replies! unfortunately the seller won't budge from the $4500 asking price, and i don't think it's worth that much (more than half the original sale price?!)

Ya wanna play, ya gotta pay

12k for my '84.

Sometimes it's more so what it's worth to the seller, not the buyer. If it's just surface rust underframe with good sheet metal, 4000ish would be a fair number with low miles.

adrianspeeder- Did you buy it brand new?!? im sorry but 12k for a completely stock (looking) 84 bronco!?! you could get an extremely nice super duty 7.3 Diesel with like 100k-160k miles for that much and it would last twice as long...
