This P.O.S is starting to become drivable.

Well i picked up a 1992 f-150 I6 2wd 5 speed the other day, in 5 days i have had to replace the exhaust system, one brake line, 1 headlight, all instraument cluster lights, the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil change, New Ujoints today, and tomorrow new upper ball joints so far i have done everything my self but the upper ball joints are press in is that somthing i will be able to do my self?

breifly, didnt go over it with a fine tooth comb but didnt expect all of this and now the wiper motor quit working.

did you have a mechanic give you an inspection prior to the purchase?


it sounds like the truck has rust, was neglected on basic maintainence and you are just catching it all up suddenly which will seem like a lot at first then the truck will continue to run like it was for several years if you treat it right


I have never changed the balloints, i always had shops do them for me

well actually i bought the truck because the cab was still in good shape the rest of the body is pretty rough but the cab and floors are solid which in up state ny is pretty rare, i have just about everything squared away now and its driving pretty well no further complants. yet. lol

I don't know about the 92's, but i had a 93 XL scab with the 4.9. Wish i still had that motor! i upgraded to a 95 w/ a 302. the I6 is a great motor imo.

Go to the auto parts store and borrow a ball joint PRESS. It will look like a giant C clamp. Makes removal and installation of the ball joints pretty easy. And replace the lower ball joints while you're at it, might as well...
