Ignition tumbler, I goofed up

I have as a beat a round work on the farm 1991 f150, the ignition went out a while back, and have just been jumping across the solinoid to start it. I bought a new tumbler and beng in a hurry to get it in I failed to dsconnect the battery. Apparently I shorted something out. I have replaced the ignition switch with one off of another pickup I have but still everything is like the key is on except when I disconnect the battery. What do you figure I need to replace now?

you dont need to disconnect the battery when changing out the switch. if its gonna be sitting a while then yea go ahead so the battery doesnt die but you dont need to. maybe the actuator broke inside the column

all electric stays on why?

Is the actuator the rod that runs from key switch to igntion switch on steering column? If so does it have a spring at the key switch or does it depend on the spring in the ignition switch? I ask because I figure that spring in the ignition switch has to be set in some way for the key to return to the run position from the start position, I took one off of another pickup I have. Also since I did this all my electrical stays on all the time just as if the key were turned on.

Igniton tumbler

Now I have replaced solenoid with no change the electrical system stays on all the time just as if the key was on, but its not. The electric door locks won't even allow doors to be locked until you dsconnect the battery. Also will not start by Jumpng across the solenoid. Is there another relay somewhere between the switch and the soleniod?

Are you sure the switch is set in neutral? Does the switch change when you turn the key?

the switch has a little bit of adjustment to it. you might not have it lined up properly.
