try to put it in a 65 66 mustang 68- 73 would except big block motors, the 351 boss was used in the 71-73 mustangs. yes the engine bays did change the reason they don't fit is the size of the heads sqaure verse's angled. also if you read more than one article on google im sure you will be able to find the part that says they were considered mid size blocks.

I didn't say anything about a 65 or 66. They had smaller engine bays. You would be pressed to put a Windsor in one. It still is a small block engine. The 351 Boss is a special version of a Cleveland. The Cleveland was installed in the Cougar and Mustang starting in 1970. Do you know what three things all Boss engines had in common? Factory four bolt mains, steel cranks, and solid lifters. 302 Boss (which was the first engine with Cleveland style heads), 351 Boss, and 429 Boss (which had Ford's version of "hemi" heads, and was known as a shotgun hemi). I'm done with the history lesson. Peace.

351 Cleavlands came in both "big" and "small" block patterns. Big and small blocks are chebby terms and don't work well when discribing ford motors.

Just curious, but why are you parting it? And is the front D44 a drum brake or disk brake? Let me know, I am needing a disc brake D44 for mine.

The Clev is absolutely a small block and mates to a C-4 ot small black C-6. It uses heads designed after the Boss 302 except for the water flow.

I had a 351C in a 1965 Mustang Coupe. Hooked up to a top loader. It was a bear to change the plugs and had to restrain it with a chain because of the torque, but she was awesome. Also still have my 1954 F100 with a 351 C, C-4, 4.88 gears. Best time was 12.96. Loved to beat the big block Chevys with it.

I was just sitting here laughing to myself. My Clev in a 65 was tight, but did not have to modify the shock towers. You should have seen my buddy's 65 coupe with the 429 CJ stuffed in it. A top loader and some low gears, don't rember what. He DID cut the shock towers. That think was a blast.

The 350 Cleveland, 351M and 400 are all "335" series blocks. The 351C uses a SBF bellhousing pattern, the 351M and the 400 share the 385 series pattern. The overall configuration of the engines is extremely similar and shares very little with the SBF or the 385. Might I suggest that "big block" and "small block" simply do not apply to the 335s since they are neither?
