The 96 F-150 automatic options were:
300 E4OD
302 4R70W or E4OD
351 E4OD

The C6 was available in 96 but only in the F-250 and F-350

believe it or not...there was a little box that you could get the c-6 behind the 351 or 302 in 1996 for the f150.

it was an option for the people who didnt quite trust the newer electronic automatics

The Ford factory Shop Manual says not. It gives the applications of the C6 as I listed above. Given that 1996 was the first year for OBD-II and the tightened emissions requirements below 8500 GVWR which would have made computer control of the tranny virtually mandatory, I tend to believe the shop manual more than your recollection. The EVTM show any evidence of a C6 in an F-150 either.

I've never seen that combo, but if it exists someone here probably has it. A lot of people claimed that there were no mass air trucks before '96, and I know that's not right.

No, it was an option for the F-2/350's with the 300, 351 or 460 from '89-'97 for the people that didn't want to shell out the money for an E4OD at 1200ish bucks. Last half ton C6 was '88 in the F-150 and '89 in the Bronco.
