Unhappy Clutch Problem:(

I was driving yesterday, when I pushed the clutch in to shift to second, the pedal just stayed mashed down to the floor when I released my foot. So, I used my toe to pull the pedal back out. Now, it won't puch down AT ALL!! I had a buddy of mine tow me to a trusted local mechanic. Anybody have any idea of what I might be looking at?

-problem?
-how much?
-anything else?

I have a couple of theories, but there's much more experienced people than me out there. I'd appreciate ay input, thanks.

I'd say something might be wrong with the clutch master cylinder. Check the fluid also.

When you pulled the clutch back out with your foot was it really stiff or did it come right out? What year is your truck and how many miles does it have? My brother had some crazy things happen with his clutch and it turned out to be the linkage. Just my .02

Well, the mechanic called at about 12:00 noon. He said the clutch was bad, the slave cylinder and the throw-out bearing. I guess I should not have been so blind to the obvious...it's the original clutch with 130,000 miles. Altough, I never really did notice it start to slip. So far it's going to cost me $400...I think there using FORD parts. But, this is a really good mechanic, and he's given me very good benefits from his work before.

Oh, when I pulled the clutch back up, I couldn't get it to go back down worth anything! I was pushin' hard...it wouldn't go down! I probably shouldn't have pulled it back up, but it seemed like a good option at the time! Thanks for your help guys, maybe I even helped you guys out!

I have had a similar problem with my 1996 F-150. In my case it happened to be the Slave cylinder. am not sure of the year of your rig but on mine the slave is located inside the bellhousing which is a real pain to get to. The part isn't that expensive to buy, it's just the time needed to replace it that's a bummer. Hope this helps.

$400 ain't bad. I spent well over $200 on the clutch, slave cylinder, and throwout bearing, doing it myself.

Yep, I expected the price to be high, I know clutches are expensive..plus labor. It would probably be cheaper to use "non-ford" parts, but I'm fine with it. ..Especially if it lasts another 130,000 miles ! Thanks for your help!
