Question Trouble Codes

Does anybody know of a way to delete the trouble codes from my truck short of going to a shop? I read on a newsgroup that disconecting the battery for about 5 mins would do it but my truck would run bad for a while while it relearned everything - When I start trying to improve my gas millage with tips I keep learning about here (chips/air filters/ ect.)do I have reset the computer every time? or will it just learn the new settings?
(My truck is running real good now - thanks everybody that sent ideas)

Thanks
Dennis

I think if you just leave it alone it will eventually go off after the problem is corrected or stops.

To clear the codes just disconnect the battery for 20-30 minutes and switch on the headlights (clears capacitors). I usually do it for 5 minutes, but last time that wasn't enough <headscratch>...
And yes, after every mod I clear the computer.
