Post '89 F-150......making a squeaky sound

Okay, here is the problem. On my truck, when I put it in gear, a squeak, squeak, squeak sounds occurs. The faster I go, the faster the squeak. Until about 30 mph. It stops around there. I have to drive or a 175 foot tall bridge every morning. Usually go about 80 mph on the way down and when I take my foot off the gas it makes a low pitch vibration/hum. I also think that one of the U-joints is going bad. It clicks occasionally. Could I have a bad carrier bearing? I was thinking that it may be the squeaker in the disc brakes. But my brakes never make any sounds.

Anyone have any advice? I am moving half way across the country in about 3 weeks. Would like to correct these problems before then. Although I do believe that my truck will make the trip. Just want it to run after I get there!

Any advice is appreciated.

Cool

Ace Frehley Sounds like you have a worn u-joint(s).When they get worn the seals leak grease out and they go dry, increasing wear and making them squeak. When they get extremely worn they also allow the drive shaft to move around at the joints causing it to be off center and can cause it to vibrate.I'd start by looking at your u-joints and replacing the ones that are worn!!!I would definatly repair your truck before driving across the country!!! Good luck, and keep on trucking.

Thanks! The drive shaft is coming off early saturday morning. Gonna replace them all.....even if some of them dont need it. Rather do it now than later.

Wow! What a job. Took 6 hours with limited tools and hot South Louisiana heat. But I got it done. No more squeaks or anything! I looked like a member of the rock band KISS (hence the name Ace Frehley) by the time I was finished...grease was all over me! LOL Hopefully I wont have to change U Joints again for a looooong time.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that the only bad U Joint was the rear one. The front and center were fine but I replaced them anyway since I had the whole thing taken apart and the parts are inexpensive. The rear U Joint caps were broken and the bearings inside had turned into powder! Dry powder.
