How do I straight pipe my F-150?
Hey,
I have a '94 F-150 XL Supercab with a 351. I want to straight pipe it for a while to see how it sounds. I know it'll be loud, but thats what I want right now. Like I said, its only for a while.
The question is can I just unbolt it right in front of the muffler, and still leave the Catalytic Converter and everything on. Are there any special things I should know before I take off the muffler and pipe. And if you've done it or know somebody who has done it could you give me a quick description on how it's done?
Thanks

I've run my truck w/o a muffler, and even w/o the cat. The truck w/o the muffler was barely any louder then stock. Once the cat was off it was LOUD but it wasn't any type of desirable tone, just plain loud.
If you really want your truck to sound good while being loud put on a flomaster cat-back system. With just strait pipe it will be loud but won't sound very good

I have a 92 f-150 without the cat and replaced the manifolds with a set of heddman headers, and ran just straight pipes of them with 1 7/8 pipe and it makes a nice sound when you get on it and is pretty loud at the same time . If you are just moseing around it is not very loud but still has a good tone to it.
as of yesterday, my truck is running with straight pipes. i had a clogged catalytic converter so i cut the pipes right before the first cat (right under the cab) with an electric saw. it sounded so badass that i had a good friend of mine make me a piece of pipe so the exhaust exists a little further back than where i made the cut (this way i dont get all that carbon monoxide inside the cab at stoplights). i dont know how a 351 would sound, but my 302 sounds soooo awesome, i cant even describe it. i guess it really depends on your preference of exhaust notes because this would be too loud for most people, but not for me. you will need either o2 simulators or get the computer reprogrammed because the oxygen sensors will go crazy (i havent done this step yet and my computer is throwing codes and the air/fuel mix is running rich but i hope to have this worked out by the end of the week). if you go for it, tell us how you like it. if you have any questions just post them, good luck!

I noticed that you said you had a clogged (cat), what was the symptoms of the clogged (cat), because i think i may have the same problem. My 1994 ford f150 4x4 5.0 302 efi stalls big time but doesn't die. Also doesn't have power.

No second cat, no muffler, 3" pipe with 3.5" tip exiting in front of rear passenger tire.

That sounded pretty cool, can tell there is no muffler. How bad was the cab drone?
