Cool 5.8 camshaft

I have a 94 bronco with 5.8 auto. 83,000 mi. The engine sounds like it has a bad lifter.I thought about a cam change and I've been told all 5.8s 94 or newer have roller cams!I'm wondering if this is true and if I can change to a bigger cam.Any opinions on this subject would be great. Thanks

I seriously doubt it is a lifter. Problems with lifters are non-existant unless you don't change your oil. Check for exhaust leaks. Small block exhaust manifolds are prone to cracking, so are the EGR and thermactor tubes. Check well for leaks. It is probably the EGR tube. Pull back the insulation on it and check for black soot around any of the tube, also check for visible cracks.

Cool

Nomopar4me , Thanks for the advice! While I was looking for leaks I found someone had pluged the thermactor hose between the cylinder heads and the valve,so I unpluged it.I started up the truck to see if it sounded any different and the noise was louder, and coming from the left valve cover.I pulled the cover off and found a loose rocker arm bolt,so I replaced it, and put locktite on it.Now it's quiet again and running great. THANKS AGAIN!!
