Cool Possible 300 I6 power upgrades

I have a 91 F250 2WD, 300 I6, 5 speed manual. I am thinking of doing some minor performance mods to get a little more power out of it. Its not too bad actually, especially around town, but well, I'm 17 so you know...
I was considering running 3 inch pipe from the convertor back (maybe throw out the convertor altogether), and installing a free flowing but not so loud muffler. Also, I am considering blocking the EGR off and putting in a Superchip sometime. I know the Superchip will help some but what about the other stuff? Thanks!

Your on the right track with the idea of the chip and exhaust. You can also do an ignition system (like an MSD or a Jacobs) and I know K&N sells a FIPK for the I6 also. If that is not enough one thing to remember a good machine shop can do wonders also, you can have the throttel body ported and have the upper intake extrude honed. Last I checked there were still no headers for the fuel injected I6 but you might also try the machine shop on your stock manifolds (I have no idea if that would work or not). And last but not least you can change the rear gears.

Good luck

I would throw out the cats and run true 2.5" duals w/40 series FM. That's what I did and it made a big difference. As for headers, intake, cam, ignition try www.cliffordperformance.com
They have a wealth of performance boosters for the 300.
Hope this helps.

Check out: http://pub41.ezboard.com/bfordsixcyl...rformanceforum it's a pretty good BB on Ford 6s. The people at Clifford will tell you that a 3" exhaust is too big. They recommend a single 2.5" You can get headers, but if you already have the split manifold, they won't do much on a near stock engine. Extrude-Honing is great, but they want over $600 to do the I-6 intake! Head work is a real place to pick up HP as is a camshaft, but on your truck the EFI system is the cork in the bottle. With a stock system you're not going to make more than about 160HP no matter what you do. A couple of people on the Ford 6 BB are experimenting with fuel injection mods and have had good results. Take a look.

Thanks a lot for the info. I think I may run 2 1/2 pipe then rather than 3, and throw out the cat. Also I'll most likely run a FM. Superchip is going to go in sometime, and maybe a Jacobs ignition. I'm not quite sure exactly what I will do but you guys were a great help.

forget the I-6 get a carburated v-8 they have the same bell housing pattern as the i-s so no tranny swap and alot more power potential and carbed v-8's are cheap just buy one whole mabee out of the scrap yard with manifolds collector pulleys waterpump and all 80- 85 were all carb motors.

What's the fun in that? To me it is a challenge to hop up a 6 cylinder especially on that is EFI. I also have another truck (GMC) that has a carburated 350. It is fun to make more power on but far too easy. No challenge to it. Just my .02

Hey man, I'm gonna tell you as a fellow proud owner of a fuel injected 300, there is not exactly an abundance of aftermarket parts available... with that being said, don't get downhearted, these things are torque monsters and they can be very fun to drive, if you stay realistic about what your working with, or you are independently wealthy haha. There is an aftermarket for the big 6's you just have to do a little searching, and do your homework because it is easy to throw money at it, and either you don't get anywhere or even worse you go backwards.

Holy thread from the dead! I've been around awhile and have never seen the names other than StrangeRanger. Looks like the original poster hasn't showed up since '04.

It was new material to me and I figured if I found it without looking, then maybe someone else would...

They are tough, run forever, gas hogs. Good work trucks.
