A friend of mine is looking for an engine. Does anyone here know of a good website to check into or an engine available in Louisiana? He's looking for a V8 5.0 302.

Junkyards in your area should have used engines. Larger auto part stores can order "crate" motors, these are rebuilt engines that were done in a factory, usually have some kind of warranty. Your city may also be big enough to have some local engine rebuilders. Best to ask around locally on that, cheapest isn't the best, but price alone doesn't guaranty quality.
A price I saw in a tv guide type thing for a 302 premium long block from a larger rebuilder was $665.
Engines from a rebuilder are usually available as short block, long block, premium long block, long blocks with or without tinware. These are in increasing price order, as there are more parts there. Tinware is sheet metal pieces like valve covers, oil pan. They all assume you are trading in a like-piece to get the stated prices, as they use the trade-in to rebuild for their stock.
