Talking Hi guys I'm new here so let me introduce mi self!

Hello everyone I have been visiting this site for quite a while so I thought the it was time to introduce my self, ok so as you guys can see in my signature below my truck its Mexican and I have done all of the mods below listed including underdrive pulleys but I took those out because my alt couldn't keep up with my sound system, so you guys might be thinking why is my truck Mexican, well because I'm Mexican too and I was born and raised down there but I been leaving in the Waukegan IL area ( north of Chicago) for about 7 years, anyways a bought my truck back on 96 but completely stock, and the truck is en Mexico but I go down there about once a year and every time a go I get some thing to make my truck faster and out af all of the mods that I have done to the truck the one that gave me the most power was the Jacobs Ignition system wich was the last mod that I did, I just could not believe how much power the system gave me I dont really know how many horses the system gave me but I can tell you that before the install of the system I tested the truck going up hill in a very narrow Mexican road and the fastest it could go was about 130 KPH wich is about 75MPH and after the install of the system I tested the truck again and WWHAO what a difference, the truck felt faster and the numbers don't lie, same road same conditions the truck coul go at more than 140KPH wich is like 85MPH and it was still pulling very strong keep in mind that the part of Mexico where I live its at about 1.25 Miles above sea level so it is fast I think, one other thing that I like about the system is how much faster the truck responds and how I got back all of the low end power that I lost after installing the Headers and the Flowmaster muffler I know that this system is kinda expensive but I think it is really worth it, one other thing that I forgot to mention is that I got better gas mileage I don't really know the numbers but I will say that the system gave about 1 or 2 more MPG so know my truck can actually spank just about any Chevy truck in my home town I was so close to win a race against a 2000 Silverado pick up truck that has the new Vortec engine and some 17 inch tires and how knows what more, if it wouldn't been by the damn Speed Governor that kicks in at about 180KPH or 110MPH but untill than we were head to head but I guess the Chevy truck Din't have Governor because he just keep on going, if I just had a chip in my truck things would it been diferent but o well you can't win all of them, but besides that truck I have spanked just about any truck that I have raced, its not like I racing al the time but it seems.....

Hi Gilberto,

Welcome to F-150 Online, we're delighted you decided to join the rest of us here.

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with your truck, and glad to hear that the Jacob's ignition system seemed to help your vehicle that much. I think it's partially due to your extremely high altitude, as they don't generally make that kind of difference closer to sea level, but also because you're truck is a little bit older, being a 1993 model, and their factory ignition systems aren't as good as the 1997 & newer trucks, so it sounds like the Jacob's system is doing an excellent job for you, congratulations!

The Superchip will remove the top speed limiter, so if you're loking for more power and to be able to go faster without a top speed limiter, that might be a good choice for you. Of course you will have to use premium gas with it, so that is something to think about. If you might be interested in the Superchip, please feel free to give us a shout by phone or via email, our contact info is just below and we'll be happy to go over that info with you.

In the meantime, we hope you'll hang out here on F-150 Online with us when you have the spare time, it's a great place to learn more about these trucks and what makes them tick, etc., and also meet some new friends. Take some time to drop by the various sections of these message boards, as there is a wealth of information available here.

Best of luck with your truck,

Thumbs up

Gilberto,

Glad to see you're enjoying your truck. This site is the best you will find for well informed information about your F150. I've looked around, and nothing else I've found is even close.

Out of curiosity, do you know the rated output of your truck. I think some of the trucks made in Mexico have different specs. I recently saw a 5.0 build in a magazine that mentioned it used a Mexican block.

Too bad we don't get some of the other trucks here in the US. I've seen several articles about trucks you can get in Mexico but not here.

As far as your ignition is concerned, I also have a Jacobs on my '95 302. My results were much the same as yours. Of the mods I've done the ignition was by far the best. In theory some of the others make more power, but they didn't do nearly as much for my truck.

Hello again and thanks for the welcome.
As far as the rated out put of my truck I'm not tu sure but I remeber readin a while a go in the mexican Ford web site that the rated output for the 5.8L engine was like around 210- 215 Horses and like 300-315 foot pounds of torque but those are fly wheel numbers and because of the high altitude like a said we are at 1.25 miles above sea level so we don't see any thing close to those numbers and by the way those anybody has any idea of how much power do we loose because of the altitude? I know it is a lot but I don't have idea of how much, one time I drove my truck to some place that was at alot lower altitude and whao the truck felt like if a had put a supercharger or somenthing on it I mean it was just nice to see how much faster my truck was at the altitude, to bad that 75% of Mexico is at way above sea level so the only way to felt you car or truck at is full potential is to go to places like Acapulco or Puerto Vallarta , and as far as diferences betwen my truck and the Us truck there is very little diference if there is any because the engine is basicaly the same because I have bought parts for my truck in here and every part that I have bought is the same as the one that came with the truck and you are also right about many mexican trucks that aren't available for the US market for instance do you guys know that in Mexico Chevrolet makes a sport version of the Silverado wich is called "Silverado 400ss" wich has the same engine as the other silverados but it comes with a 5 speed transmission and it only come in black, red or white and it is a short bed pick up with the step side bed and it is a really nice truck to bad Ford doesn't make a Sport version of the F150, somenthing like F150 5.4ss it would be nice if they did, one other thing that should mention is that in Mexico the luxury version of the F150 its not called F150 it is called F250 which is what mine is and if you want like the best Ford truck that Mexico has it would be called "Ford Lobo" which would be like F150 Lariat of the Us market and they are basically the same but instead of having the F150 logo on the fenders it has the "LOBO" logo instead, so those are just some of the facts about the Mexican trucks and if you guys want to know any more about them I will be happy to tell you guys more about them...

Wink

Maybe I should order some "LOBO" emblems. That should stir up some questions. I've seen several magazine spots about cool trucks they don't sell in the states. Not all Fords but it would be nice if we could get them.

I'll have to do some checking on the engine stuff. One of the Mustang mags recently had a built 302 putting out about 500 HP without forced induction, and it specifically mentioned the "Mexican block".

It sounds like your truck is rated about the same as US trucks. I think the 351 had 330 lb ft in '96, but they always change some year to year.

Cool

Gilberto
You said to bad Ford dosen't make a sport truck, but I believe they do. I've seen F-150's with Sport stickers on them, they are were the 4X4 stickers usually go and of course Ford makes the Lighting. Then again I don't know if they are aviable in Mexico.

Hi Gilberto,

Yes, I can give you the formula for determining how much power you are loosing at your altitude, it's very simple:

For each 1000 ft. above sea level, you lose 3% of your power. Since you say you are at 1.25 miles above sea level, that would be approximately 6600 ft. above sea level. This gives you 6.6 X 3%, or a 19.8% power loss. In round numbers, call it a 20% power loss at 6600 ft.
