I6 Dual Exhaust
Has anyone put dual exhaust on a 4.9 I6?If you have, what kind, did it improve anything and how did it sound? I plan on putting a single in dual out FM 50 or 40.
Well, I hate to tell you but you can't run a true dual exhaust on the I6, because the factory installed inline cats on it. If you do, you will be subject to real hassels from the cops & the smog inspector. But this is what I did to mine....
I cut off the pipe just behind the cat, ran dual tailpipes right out the back from there with no mufflers at all. It is quiet, low rumble. Want more rumble, go with a glasspck installed backwards. You'll keep the deep tone but get a little more rumble when you nail the throttle...& it's all smog legal.

I know some states are more strict than others, but indiana is not too bad. So I got out the sawzall, cut right in front of the first cat, basically tossed all the factory exhaust except manifolds, fitted up 2.5 inch pipes with flowmasters, and yes true duals. They're not real loud but have a nice deep rumble.
