Post How do I tell if truck has tow package?

What do I look for? I've owned several different vehicles with tow packages, but in each case the specific items were different. What combination does Ford usually use in trucks (specifically the 1992 F150).

For the 92-96 trucks:
Aux. Trans cooler in front of radiator if automatic trans.
Usually higher rear gear like 3.55 instead of 3.08
Power steering cooler (at least on 4WD) as a hairpin loop of steel tubing clipped to front of traction beam to be in airflow.
Engine oil cooler on 351 as a oil filter mount cooler, lower radiator hose has two hoses to/from cooler, don't know if the 300-6 or 302 have these engine oil coolers.
Class 3 Receiver, don't know if that was always there or added later.
Thats what I know.

I decided to buy the truck I was looking at. It's a 92 F150 w/300 ci, 2wd, and E40D trans. Based on what you say, it has the tow package, because it has 3.55 gears and tranmission cooler. I don't know about the rest, I'll have to look. It does not, however, have either a hitch or trailer plug.

Mysterious....

Sounds good, Russs. I don't know if the receiver itself was an extra cost part of the tow package then, or what. You might find the trailer wiring up behind the bumper, cut off.

They claimed my '95 I6 manual tranny has the trailer towing package and I also have the 3.55 rear end. I also found a wiring harness behind the seat that had never been put on the truck. It was very easy, just plugged into a harness behind the bumper-no cutting or splicing wires. I also had to put on my own trailer hitch.
