Post Another Clutch Problem

I found andreplied to the message from UrbanCowboy dated November 18, 2000. My problem is similar to his. A few weeks ago I had trouble with my clutch not engaging util it reaches the floor. I found out that the brake fluid was low in the master cylinder for the clutch and I added some. This fixed the problem for a couple of weeks. Then, without any noticable fading in the clutch, it happened again. I inspected the line running from the master cylinder to the tranny, but didn't find any leaks. I thought maybe the clutch plates were wearing, causing the fluid level to reduce and this caused a problem enhanced by cold weather. Any ideas?

I had a POS Fiat X-19 about fifteen years ago with a hydraulic clutch that had a problem like that. The seals in the slave cylinder had gone out. I replaced the slave cylinder and bled the system to fix it. No such thing as a hydraulic cylinder rebuild kit for that vehicle... I suppose the clutch master cylinder seals would cause the same problem too.

I had the same problem on my 1984 F-150, I replaced the master cylinder and the clutch works fine and the oil level stays full.
