Firing order & Cam Confusion

Hello guys,

I have a new re-mfg'd engine bolted on my engine stand. This is going in my 1994 F150 with AOD trans. Autozone states this engine has the firing order that ends in: "5-4-8". (Plus the firing order sticker in front of the radiator ends in "5-4-8")

I wanted to get some more "umph" from this engine so I've called up Crane cams twice now. I was looking at the Crane 444211 (208/216@.050 .530/.530 112LSA). The Crane rep asked me about the firing order and I told him about the firing order sticker ending in "5-4-8". He says the 444211 cam should work OK.

So fast forward to today. I call Crane today to ask about valvesprings for the 444211 cam. I get a different Crane Rep who tells me the 444211 (208/216 cam) is too big for the stock computer and I will have problems if I pick this cam. So the 2nd Crane Rep. recommends the 364211 cam (198/208*@.050 .445/.470lift ) This Crane Rep. told me that it didn't matter if my truck 5.0L had the same firing order as the 5.0HO

After I hung up with the Crane rep., I went back to the Crane Website and looked up the 364211 cam. It states the 364211 cam uses the firing order ending in "3-7-8".

Now I'm really confused...Did I get the right cam & what Firing order do I use?

i dont see why the 444211 wont work. did they say why it wont work with the stock computer? as far as i'm concerned the cam determines when which valve opens and closes and how far thats it. it wouldnt mess with anything else as far as i know.

I don't see why the 444211 won't work either. After all, the firing order info. on the 444211 cam ends in "5-4-8" just like the firing order sticker on my truck.

My stock computer is expecting the "5-4-8" firing order. So I can't just throw in a cam that's made for the "3-7-8" NON-HO firing order, right?

This is frustrating to me because I come from the old school GM world where these things aren't an issue...

Right, the cam and firing order of the computer & injectors & distributor must match.

But I would think that if you rewired the injectors & the distributors firing order and used the other cam I do not see where the computer would know the difference.
Of course the performance would be a little less as that is why in 1994 the changed the firing order.
