Post Shift on the Fly problems

I have a 1990 Eddie Bauer Bronco with the worthless shift on the fly 4x4 system. Of course now that the snow is starting to fly it won't shift into 4 wheel drive. I checked the fuse, seems to be fine. I was wondering what to check, I'm sure that this is a fairly common problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I take it that your bronco has button operated xfer case? Have some one push the button and whack the shift motor with a hammer. This should free it up and it should work normally.

I got the transfer case to shift into 4 wheel drive, and 4 wheel low, but the hubs aren't kicking in,is there a relay that kicks the hubs in, or is there something else to check? Thanks

Your last post told the story. You have a bad auto-locking hub--maybe both. Get under the front end & try to turn the axles going into the hub. The one that turns is bad. Those hubs lock when the axles turn. Check both.

bronco, lariet hit it right on the head.. one or both hubs are boat anchors. WARN makes a great replacement manual set, MileMarker makes an acceptable set too. Drop the autos, as they will just break again.

About once a month, if I haven't been using 4WD, I'll put it in 4HI then down to 4LO to keep the switches and motor contacts clean. Also helps to stir up all the seals and bearings in T-case, u joints, front diff, and those bearings that are inside the spindles, that only turn when the axle shafts turn.
