Cracling front end when turning
I have a 1994 F150 with overdrive. When I turn to the right or left then there is a crackling noise. When it was under warranty I had it into the dealer several times for this problem. Each time they claimed it was fixed but after a few months the noise came back. I can't seem to get it fixed and I was wondering if anyone else has this noise or has had this problem. The last time they claimed it was because of the transmission mounts and supposedly adjusted them, the nose came back.
jpuhm
I have 95 5/speed od. had pretty much the same noise when turning. I found that the trans mount bolts were lose, and replaced them, per ford specs "on bolts and touq." and that pretty much took care of it. hope that helps

I am experiencing a similar noise in my '95. I will have to check it out and post the results.

Okay, so it took me a month to check it out. I'm a mechanic, and never seem to have time for my vehicles. Anyway, I checked every bolt I could find. All were torqued to specs. I still don't know where that noise is coming from, but I don't let it get to me.
Take care,

I had a similar experience with my 95 F150 4x4 when the crackling noise started. I never suspected my front end would fail, it was just that the noise was loud and irritating. I took it to the dealer and when they said it was fixed they were pretty evasive about how or why. When the sound returned after not too long, I took it back and got the same treatment for 2 or 3 more visits( excuses like "loose bolts" and "We can't locate, but tightened everything"). Finally on about the fifth visit, when I picked it up they said there was a tsb or a ford promotional kit that replaced the plastic around the steering box with metal. I never heard the sound ever again. AND they never needed to see me again.
Yea,
my truck makes all kinds of little noises too and some of them sound similar to the desciptions that I am hearing. I found the heat shield on my cab above the cat-converter was making some sounds sounds. I would hear it when I closed the door or whatever. I fixed that, but there are some sounds that do come from the front end ranging from the shock bushings having some slop in them, to some occasional other sounds. I am not too worried as it isn't real annoying, and I notice really insignificant stuff. I am a Telecom tech, so I notice things other people do not

Hello there...
I have a 95 F150 that I purchased about three months ago. Just this week, I have noticed this odd cracking noise in the front end. At first it was just when applying brakes, and now when turning or sometimes when accelerating. Not a loud sound but worrisome nonetheless.
Also, the oil gauge never worked, but sometimes when I have been on the road for awhile at high speeds, it comes on. Also, license plate lights doing the same. Sound like a short or maybe a fuse going to you? hmmm
Well, thanks for any response. I am already somewhat relieved that others are noticing same noises and seems to be nothing major. (crossing fingers here)

Yeah! The oil guages on these trucks are real beauties eh. Some days it works, some days it doesn't. When it isn't working if I tap on the plastic in front of the guage it will usually start to work. Some day I'll get around to putting a real guage in there, or maybe I won't.

I have a sould like that. Im not going to do anything about it because it has done that for a long time now and nothing seems to be wrong. Like they say if it isn't broke dont fix it. The only fix for me is to turn up my music. You should try it some time.

i have a 95 f-150 ext cab sb 302 and it is doing the same thing. took it to ford and they said there is a tsb on the trans. crossmember (its a kit)to remove it and put some pre-molded phenolic plates in between the crossmember and the frame and to use 9/16 bolts on the crossmember about $140.00 for the repair. also asked the mechanic about the fix and he said just take some anti-freeze bottles and cut out some shims and put in there and it will go away but said it wasn't creating a problem with it like that just irritating!
