Question Check engine light reset

Hello. I have a 1985 F-150. The check engine light has been on since 70k miles. I was told there is a reset for that light. A mechanic told me not to do the battery disconnect thing because if a hard fault is there the light will just come back on, he also said the light came on in my truck just to remind the owner to service the truck, it is common and probaly not because there is a problem. I replaced the carburator, oxygen sensor and egr valve. The truck runs like new. Any ideas? Thanks.

are you talking about the emission warning light? This light would come on after a certain mileage/engine starts--meaning the emission controll needs serviced. There is a reset for this light. It's a reset switch located under the dash near the speedometer. most service manuels describe how to reset it.

Cool

OK Jay, I have a manual but it says the reset is located by the light, wrong, yes it's the emission light. I'll look for it today. Thanks. Greg.
