Underdrive pulleys and Superchips...
I know I've asked about underdrive pulleys before, but I was wondering about how much they cost. I never use my air conditioning and was thinking about taking it out to save power and I am considering underdrive pulleys. Are they worth it? Also, I am getting my newly rebuilt engine installed as we speak, it will be a 302 bored .030" over, and I am getting a Crane Cam Compucam installed in it. Someday I would like to get a Superchip for my truck, but I was wondering will the new cam be compatible with a Superchip or will I have to find someone to custom burn a chip for my new cam specs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

TF,
My pulleys cost $99 from the local Ford dealer. The set I have is the three piece from Ford Racing. They are powder coated Ford blue and look sharp. I think you can get the black ones for a little less. I can dig out the box and get you a part # if you want it.
I'm sure Mike T. will be along soon to answer your chip question.

Hi TF,
Whether or not we'll have to do a custom program for your camshaft will depend on how much it's overlap and duration varies from the stock unit. Increased lift alone is not much of an issue, it's lobe centerline, overlap, & duration. We can easily do a custom program for camshaft changes if needed.
What you might want to do is to give us a call when you get a chance at our number listed below, and we'll be happy to go over all of that with you in detail.
With regards to underdrive pulleys, we do not sell them, but we do like them! A good 3-piece set will add just a tick under 12 hp on that motor, and no changes are needed in the programming for them. They don't actually increase the engine's raw power output, they simply reduce parasitic losses and thus increase the amount of power getting to the rear wheels. You may or may not actually feel any difference from them in the seat of your pants, so to speak, but they are a worthwhile mod that will improve the performance, usually knocking maybe a tenth of a second or so off the 0-60 & 1/4 miles times.
Good luck with your new motor!

Well I just got my truck back from the shop yesterday with my newly rebuilt engine and brand new cam. Although it'll take 600 miles to break in, so far I like what I'm feeling. MUCH more smooth! I have all the specs. on my new cam. so you guys can decide if a custom chip will be needed. Just out of curiosity, how much do they usually run, for both a regular chip and a custom chip and what kind of hp and torque gains are common with the early 90's trucks? Thanks a lot for the replies!
Hi TF,
Congratulations on getting your truck back with it's new motor!
The power gain from the "standard" Superchip on a stock 5.0 (302) in the F-150 is 20 hp. & 31 lbs./ft. of torque. In custom situations like this, you don't know exactly how much it's going to be until you actually put it on a good eddy current chassis dyno. Generally speaking it's usually a bit more of a gain than for a stock vehicle, as a loose general "guideline".
With regards to costs, please give us a shout privately, off the message boards for that info, as the Webmaster here has a policy of not discussing things like exact pricing, shipping status, etc., the kind of info that is between vendor & customer in other words, publicly here on the messaage boards. You can shoot us an email or give us a call, our contact info is just below, and we'll be happy to get you that info right away, and thanks in advance for your understanding on this.
Have fun breaking in that new motor & cam, & talk to you soon!
