Driveshaft Vibration
I have a 95 F150 with a
5.0 and an automatic with
overdrive. The
driveshaft is vibrating a
lot when it shifts into
overdrive around 50-60.
It also does it when
braking and it hasn't
downshifted yet. This
just started after
replacing the
differential bearing. We
replaced 2 bad u-joints
but that didn't help any.
Also when I let off the
accelerator after it starts shaking
around 55 it stops.
It also shifts really
hard into 2nd gear and
that has been going on
awhile. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I'm going to try a new carrier bearing(center support) tomorrow and hopefully this will do the trick. I checked out mine and it seemed to have a little to much play. A friend of mine had an 86 Ranger and her's was doing the same thing until she replaced the carrier bearing so wish me luck.

I got the carrier bearing put on yesterday and that didn't do anything, so this morning I took it back to the place where I originally got the diff bearing put in. They think it's in the innner pinion bearing, but don't think they did anyhting to mess it up. I went to another place and the guy just looked at it and said right away that it was really messed up. He thinks they put it in wrong, he also thinks the gears and the rest of the bearings may be shot. So now I'm looking at another $250 if he just needs to take it apart and put it together right, up to $650 if everything needs replaced. Sorry this is so long but I'm venting and this helps. Does anyone know if there's any legal action I can take if the first place put it in wrong?
Thanks

Well I'm back, it's finally running as good as new. I ended up taking it to another place after I went back to the original and found out it was my inner pinion bearing. He took it apart and put it all back together the right way and it now runs good as new(except for the harsh shift from 1st to 2nd, but that's next) Anyway total cost was about 600 but with everything new my driveshaft and diff should be good for many years to come. I hope this helps someone someday.
