This is what I would do in a situation such as yours...
Do you know if the engine/tranny are any good, except the wire problem? If not, replace it with another, or go with a different engine. Sell your old pickup.

I HAVE A 91 F150 WITH 302/5-SPD.
I HAVE ACESS TO A 85 F250 (WHICH I REALLY LIKE THE BODY STYLE)THAT IS DIESEL AND AUTOMATIC. THE PROBLEM IS THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM HAS A SHORT THAT CANNOT BE FOUND.
I AM WANDERING IF IT WOULD BE WORTH TAKEING THE 302/5-SPD. AND INSTALLING IT IN THE F250 OR WILL THERE BE TO MANY COMPLICATIONS?
I HAVE ALREADY CONSIDERED THE AUTOMATIC TO MANUAL PROBLEM WHICH I BELIEVE WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM. THE 91 F150 HAS THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH
SO IT SHOULD JUST SWITCH OVER.

I have no idea how the engine/tranny are. The truck sits at the local shop and has been for almost 2 years. It has busted out glass, missing taillight, etc. I was just thinking it may be a good project for the summer or longer.....
