Question Help With 92 - Low Speed Surge - Starting

My 92 302 F150 has 80000 miles. When running about 20-30 mph barely touching throttle the truck surges and bucks like a light trailer is attached. It surges.
I have Ford Engine and Body Manuals but cannot find any info on location or R+R of O2 sensor. All the posts I have read lead me to believe it would be $40.00 well spent to replace it. It also doesnt like to start on first try but always starts when I hit the key the second time.

Anyone have a Ford ( or independent )mechanic they trust in Dallas ? Lee Jarmon Ford has not impressed me, I only go there if I have no other choice.

Crawl under the truck and look at the passenger side exhaust. You'll see the O2 sensor screwed into the exhaust pipe. It has two or three electrical wires coming out of it. Very easy to change. Not sure if it'll fix your problem.

It should be on a Tiny H-pipe.

I had the same surging on my 93, and with age, it needed the throttle body and fuel injectors cleaned. That was about 1.5 years ago, I haven't had a problem since then. When I had that done I replaced the TPS sensor too. It does the mighty 302 good, to do that every once and awile.

Wink

On a '93 it is on the exhaust. Can't miss it..only thing with wires comming out of it from the exhaust. Mine came out real easy (very suprised). Make sure you use the Hi-Temp anti-seize when you replace it. Makes next time easy too.

Thumbs up

Thanks Guys, truck was onlift today and I found the o2 sensor. ( Right where you said it was. ) Now just need to order the part and find a reputable place to do the fuel injector work. I can clean the Throttle Body but will need help with high pressure injector cleaning. Thanks again !!
