Post How come????????

How come the only time something needs replacing is when it is either snowing, raining, or 10 degrees outside. The weather here in New England has been horrible for the last few weeks. My F-150 has been running great. Starts on sub-zero mornings, heater works good, and haven't slid it into anything yet this year. When all of a sudden, while driving home from work today......I hear that all too familiar sound of brake shoes rubbing on rotors. Today is Wednesday, I won't get a chance to fix it until Saturday, and it is supposed to be 8 degrees and real windy then. Guess it is just my usual luck. If anybody has an extra heater or garage could you send it up my way. Sheese!!

Could be worse. I usually had heater cores to replace during the winter. Nothing like being WET and cold. Anti-freeze my @ss!

I had my worst year last year! I had to replace my battery, the upper heater hose, and it took awile for the heater to warm up.(old antifreeze.)All in the same week. Both of my trucks lock the wheels up for the first 3 times I slowly hit the brakes. I now know this is a Ford fault.

Well, I was driving home from work tonight and decided that Saturday was too long to wait to replace the brake shoes. Picked up the parts and threw on four layers of clothes . Got the job done in less than two hours counting the 25 minute warm up I took. Need to get the rotors turned now, but at least I can drive it.

Pastmaster, The first few years I had the F-150 my brakes used to lock up real bad on damp mornings. Just for the first two or three times I used them. Replaced the brake shoes to semi-metallics and the problem went away.

Pastmaster, Never had the rears lock up....was just the discs in the front. Figured it was rust on the rotors..building up overnight. Like I said, it hasn't been a problem since about '97.
