I-6/5speed-Ques.
I have a 95 150 with 38,000 miles on it,and i have an annoying squeeking/squeeling sound when i press in the the clutch pedal or release it taking off. It makes the sound even when the truck is not running and u depress the clutch pedal. U here it more when u depress the clutch pedal slowly. would like to know if anyone knows what it might be/if it is normal for it,or if anyone else has this annoying problem.
It could be your throwout bearing going bad....just a thought, it could be something different but that's the first thing that comes to mind. I had a mustang that sounded like that when it's throwout bearing went sour.

I have the same truck (w/53k miles on it), and it's been doing that exact same thing for over 20k miles. I haven't repaired it yet, but I am sure it's the throwout bearing. I did try removing the the access plug and applying anti-seize to the shaft, which helped a little, but it didn't last that long. Sometimes it's worse than other times, but I'm not going to pull the tranny until it either gets bad or I need to replace the clutch. I just turn the radio up a little louder.
Take care,
-Chris

My 93 also does that. Its done it for a long time and now it has 160k on it. Its also a I6. On mine it almost sounds like its just the clutch pedal rod squeeking/squeeling somewhere. Is that the same sound you guys are hearing?

Hello: Before you go too far, have you considered getting down under the steering wheel by the clutch peddle and oil all of the joints with WD-40 then get under the truck and oil any moving joints. Might have to get your wife or girl friend to depress the clutch peddle while your under the truck. Make sure the engine is off and brakes set. You never know where a squeek is comming from.
My '95, my dad's '94, and now my '98 all do the same thing. They all sound exactly the same. I don't think its anything serious, just annoying. I've tried shooting the moving parts with wd-40 before and it did'nt do a thing for it.

If it makes the noise even while the engine isn't running, as Straightsixer has stated, it wouldn't be the throw-out bearing. Most likely its coming from somewhere in the clutch pedal linkage assembly.
insect2 had a good recommendation to begin with by locating and lubricating the source.

I have a 96' 150 that does the same thing. I pulled the rubber plug on the tranny and shot Wd-40 in it. It stopped the squeak and the pedal worked a lot easier. But it lasted for all of a day. Guess i'll have to live with it.

I have a 95 I-6 with a 5-speed with 68,000 on it and never heard that sound before.I think you got some good advice on the lube job on the old linkage. also if you ever tear her down I would check the slave cly.

The noise does sound alot like squeaky linkage, and that is what I first suspected. However, I have checked and re-checked, and the noise is definately coming from inside the bellhousing. As I said before, I lubed the transmission input shaft, and the noise went away (briefly). It does it whether it is running or not. I have no doubt that it is the throwout bearing. It's not the TO bearings internal components that are failing, but the bearings ability to slide freely on the input shaft. That is why it makes no difference if the engine is running. I suppose it could also be a problem with the input shaft, maybe if it is excessively worn, but I doubt it.

OK. Here it is.... Yesterday mine started squeaking really bad. I decided to check it out and here's what I found. It's an easy fix. It's not the slave cylinder or throwout bearing (at least on mine). Take the rubber inspection plug out of the driver's side of the bellhousing. Shine a flashlight into the inspection hole. You will see the slave cylinder (a piston with a spring around it), and you will see the pressure plate (a metal disc (very rusty in my case) with slim metal fingers that apply pressure to the slave cylinder). The squeak on mine was occurring where the slave cylinder meets the pressure plate. It was very dry and rusted. I tried using Wd-40 but it lasted all of 5 miles (stop and go driving)...the heat makes it dissipate quickly. So I got some lithium grease and shot it on the end of the slave cylinder. Worked the clutch and sprayed some more. Be careful not to spray it through the pressure plate onto the clutch!! You can only spray one side of assembly, but the grease should work it's way around. The grease is thick and should not run onto the lining surfaces, but use it SPARINGLY!! The clutch works much smoother and is easier to push. I hope this will provide a permanent (or longer) fix.
Good Luck.
