95 F150 XL Purchase?
John, I see that really must want an answer. I can tell that I got my 93 (75K miles) for $5k and the only difference is that I have the E-4OD transmission. I feel I got a great vehicle for the money(everythings clean and in good shape).
If it seems like the a truck that you want to drive and you've looked it over really good and havn't found anything wrong with it, I'd say go for it.

I am seriously considering the purchase of a 95 F150 XL 2 whl drive 5pd manual with the 4.9L V6(bedliner and new tires). The truck appears to be in great shape with only 40,500 miles. The owner is selling because he has two other vehicles and was asking $7500 and has dropped to $6500. This Retails for around 10,500 with the bare essentials.
Is this deal as good as it seems or should I look for something? He did the oil every 5000 miles and has never had any repairs. Said may need brakes in future. All reponses appreciated. Thanks

Hey there Fordfan,
This is my second vehicle that's used Jacobs plugwires. I've never had any problems with them and they're warrantied for life. Gotta like that! They're top quality in my book. Oh yeah, they run $62 bucks from Jacobs for our old 4.9.

The truck has had the bedliner since it left the dealership. Have any of you had experience with checking under the bedliner to see if it rusted? Also, I live in NH and am curious how this truck will handle in the winter with a little weight in the back. The owner said he had no problems, but he traveled very little, so I was hoping someone here had more travel experience in the snow with 2 whl drive.
I have a '94 4.9L, 5-speed, 2 wheel drive F150. In the winter I put a box I made up full of gravel in the bed. It weighs around 900 lbs. The truck handles okay, and I haven't gotten stuck, even in heavy snow storms.

So this is where the guys with the more experienced 150's hang out. I bought a '94 XL with the 4.9L and 5-speed a couple of months ago and am very pleased. Now I'm ready to spend more money on it. Any suggestions (and sources)are welcome. Got split bench seat though and I do not like. Would also like overhead console, possible superchip and filter upgrade. Plan to replace factory radio
and speakers. If I can get gray cloth captains chairs, I hope to get set of XLT door panels and power locks. Were factory foglamps offered on these units? Where might I get purchase an owners manual? can't find one in local salvage yard.

ShotgunBob,
Welcome to the board!
I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to wanting to upgrade the truck. I'd love to find an 95/96 XLT that I could pirate the bumpers/grille, seats and door panels from. Anybody know which year/model bench seats came with the fold down arm rest in them? Is there a split bench with the arm rest? I've got a regular cab.
As for the owners manuals, I've found them to be completely useless. You'd be better served getting a Haynes manual IMHO.

My '92 Flareside came loaded and it was my first Ford. It has a super comfy grey bench seat and in the middle you can bring down an arm rest and it has electric lumbar support for both sides. Is that called a split bench? I took a '95 Flareside for a rip at the dealers and it had the standard interior. The seats felt like a school bus, a guy could develop a serious case of piles on long road trips.
But in my opinion I still don't care for the '96 - present styling of the 2wd trucks. They look too long and rounded for their height. The 4x4's look alot better. I just don't like a truck too rounded out everywhere.
If you want alot of bells and whistles, get her loaded. Mine came with power windows, power mirrors, power locks, lumbar, and deluxe seats. But I've had alot of problems with my windows in winter, they freeze and you can't slowly bring the window down to find that out, it just rips right off the lifter and you're screwed cause you're driving down the highway in -30C and the window keeps sliding down! Thank gawd I had hockey tape. And I'll get locked out of my driver's side a few times because the power locks fault sometimes and you'll stick the key in and it won't turn the lock. So to make a long story short, sometimes those extras are just that - extra problems.

Glad to be here. Hey! I did get a response to an add i had placed. This feller has a XLT Lariat Bench seat, gray cloth, with dual power lumbar and the fold down center arm rest. I beleive it is from a 94 XLT. I am writing letter to SANTY CLAUS cause I have a manual transmission and 2 adolescents to haul around in my supercab, maybe SANTY will get my the captains chairs I need. His ad is posted in f-150 online classifieds (www.ford-trucks.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/) Ford Truck enthusiats ad #2790. If santy doesn't come through by turkey day I may review my requirement for seat but its first come first served.

3.55:1 is my personal favorite. It's a good compromise between economy and pulling power. It's the ratio of both my vehicles.
