Post Purchase a '95 F350

Hi to the board. I am contemplating the purchase of a '95 350 with a 460 in it. The only problem I'm having is the mileage is 163,000. Everything but the transfer case (which clicks when you turn in 4x4 mode, both high and low)looks great and checks out. What do you guys suggest or do you have any advice about what I should look for in this truck? This is my first Ford purchase, my family all have Chev's. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike

Mericksen: I hope that I can point you in some kind of a direction with your truck. Ford made the 460 from about 1977?-1996. It was Ford's largest engine offered in a medium duty truck. Yes, mileage is a concern, but that doesn't make it a big problem, actually in most cases it can bring the price down considerably. I am guessing, being it is a 95, that the mileage is highway. That is by-far the best mileage. Honestly if you are fairly uneducated in minor details of trucks, take it to a trusted mechanic and have him look over everything, it may cost a bit, but it will be well worth it in the long run. If the truck is an automatic, specially the E40d, I would be careful, because that tranmission is known for problems specially for the mileage. I would find out all the information I could for that thing. Also try (www.kbb.com). I dont know what they are asking for your truck. But they will tell you about what its worth. Hope this helps some.

Good Luck
Evan

I, too would look very carefully at this truck. It probably has been used for working being a one ton truck, so those 160,000 mi. were probably pretty hard earned, and the four wheel drive unit repair can really add up quick. I work for the phone company and we have many f350's and a few with the 460. None have that many miles, but they have a few problems, and transmission being one of them. But it would be hard to find some thing (short of a diesel) that would pull the load that dude would. It would have to be a pretty darn good deal for me personally to consider it. Just my opionion.
