Post E4OD

Well things have been slow here lately so I thought I better start a topic here.

I have the E4OD in my '92 F-150. When I accelerate normally when it goes to shift from 3rd to 4th it will hang and hesitate then bang you hard into 4th. The whole truck lunges forward and doesn't sound/feel healthy at all. It's done it for the last couple years and I had it in to the dealership quite awhile ago and they said that's 'normal'. I've heard nothing but bad things about the E4OD especially in earlier '90s trucks.

Anyone else with this problem or is my tranny on it's way out?

Thanks

I don't have the E4OD, but the AOD in my '93. I hear a lot of bad things about BOTH! My tranny is doing just the opposite. As you coast down to about 40mph then re-apply the gas, a very hard "clunk" resonants through the truck. Upshifts are fine.

According to those that know, this is an indication that OD is failing. A rebuild is in the near future. So far, mines made it about 6 months like this. I'll drive it until it doesn't go.

I also have a 1992 F150 that has been doing the hard upshifts since around 1994. There is know ryme or reason to it either, sometimes it upshifts hard in all gears and, or maybe hard upshifts in one gear only, and sometimes it will go months shifting as smooth as silk then restart shifting hard again. AAmco say they know no reason for it and I will have to wait for a hard failure to figure out what it was. Just had a new tranny place open up in town(Cottman) and they are telling me that ford says there is a suspect wiring harness that needs to be replaced. I am having it done next week and I'll post the results here.

Check out this web site: www.thegrid.net/thedrivetrainpage

It has a very good explanation of the E4OD's shortfalls.

Wow I thought I was the only one experincing this. It's really getting on my nerves when i reapply the gas it's the same thing CLUNK it makes me think my trans is about to fall out. It's been like this a few months now but seems like it gets a little louder as the weeks go by.
