Angry Loose Spark Plugs Anyone?

Is anyone eles finding loose spark plugs on there 4.9L 300-6? I done a complete tune up on it about 8000 miles ago, and developed a miss under accelration. so i changed cap, rotor, and wires "again" and thats when I found the loose plugs. the miss buy the way was caused from a cracked dist.cap.

also I found a recall on the ignition control mod. but the dealer said it did not cover my vin. number "1995 ford f150xlt" anyone eles ran into this problem?

Never heard of loose plugs. Are you positive they are the right kind (resistor)?

A cracked cap after only 8000 miles- Do you shop at Autozone? I've had a lot of problems with their stuff.

Unhappy

Neal:

The plugs that I installed are motorcraft and yes resister. I installed them myself, so I no that they were tight.

And far as autozone goes,NO WAY not when it comes to igntion parts. the cap was also motorcraft along with the wires and rotor.

I wanted to share the loose plugs story with 4.9 owners because if you try to tigthen the plug with out cleaning the threads first of carbon you could damage them. "threads in the cyl.head"

So do you think carbon was the reason the plugs came loose?

It's a good tip to clean the area- especially before you pull the plugs. Don't want any nasty stuff falling into the cylinders while the plugs are out.

Thumbs up

Neal

UPDATE::: I have done some research "a friend who works at a local ford dealership" says its common among the 4.9 300-6 for plugs to come loose!!!! why? nobody could give me a straight answer. and as for as the carbon being the problem, no, what i was refering to was after the loose plugs are found, before attempting to retighting the plugs, they should be removed, and the cyl.head threads cleaned

Hmm. Never heard of loose plugs on the 300. Maybe only in recent years. My 81, 85, 90, and my dad's 93 all had the 300 and never had any problems.

At least it's something you can easily check and correct.

Thats a good question about the problem being on late modles. I will check into that. I went to NOMO'S home page, very cool. we really have alot in common. I also own a 17'f/s "mine is a astro with a 150 merc,a few years older", but paid for.

our trucks could be twins,if my tailpipe came all the way out the back, and had bed rails.

Altho I have kids and dogs.iam ready to do a few mods to the truck,3.55:1 gear is the biggie.thinking also about a superchip.will keep you posted on that.

I have had three F150's (79,82, and currently a 92) each with the 4.9. I never had any plug come loose, but I allways torqued to the high end of the spec too.
