Cool Starter Stuck ON.

Ok we've got a 1979 Ford F150 Ranger with a 460 engine in it, ok the body is 79 not sure on the engine.

Here's the issue, hubby took the truck to get gas, turned it off, and it wouldn't turn off. The starter stayed on with the key out! Go figure. So he drove it home, and it still was on. He proceeded to pull the Negative lead off the battery to turn off the truck.

Tonight we bought a brand new starter, put the negative lead back on and without the keys in the truck it still tried to start.

What should we be looking for next? I'm thinking starter soloniod but not sure?
Thanks, Heidi & Scott.

the solenoid could very well be stuck as its a simple open close relay and there relatively cheap. 20bucks somewhere around there,

soloniod Ok.

OK we'll give that a shot. Is there a way to test it to make sure before I have him go get one.

There should be 3 wires going to it(I think its a remote one?, if so its usually on the firewall or fender). 2 big wires, and a small one. Disconnect the small one. Re connect the battery -. If it still tries to start its the solenoid, if not it could be the ignition switch.
