Steering Wheel Electronics

Hi, I have a 1994 Bronco XLT.. It's the 5.8 litre V8. None of the steering wheel electronics work as in the cruise or the horn. I know the horn actually works because the anti theft still works and the horn sounds. I got underneath it to check it out and saw that a plug is disconnected from what I now believe to be the DRL Module. When I reconnect it, the Hi Beam comes on with or without the ignition being switched on. On top of this My Air con also doesnt seem to work either. Just wondering whether all this is tied into the same thing. I have checked all my fuses and they are ok. I have not checked the relays because I cannot find out what they are for. Asfor everything else, its all good. The dash illumination works but the Hi Beam dash indicator does not nor does the check engine light or the parking brake light. Indicators work as to the tail/brake lights... basically everything but the steering wheel electrics, the air con and a few lights on the dash. I would be grateful if anyone has had something similar to this problem and could point me in the right direction.
Thankyou

Does the airbag indicator light work when you first turn the key from off to run?

Do you have any error codes, especially any related to the airbag?

I'm thinking broken clockspring

I bought a used 94 a few years back and had some similar issues. It was a clock spring. This fixed cruise, airbag light and horn.

My truck also had some problems with signal lights not coming on. I bought a new switch and realized that the old one could be disassembled when I took it off. The electrical grease on the contacts had dried out and kept things from working properly. A little sandpaper and some fresh grease saved me about $70.

Sounds like some of these things may or may not be related, especially the AC.

Bingo! The "airbag" warning light is a dead giveaway

Get a shop manual. It will tell you how to get into the guts of the column to access the clockspring. The clockspring is the common name for the electrical connector between the steering wheel and the column; it is a known problem area. It is called that because it looks lke the mainspring in an old-fashioned clock.

Do NOT attempt this repair without a manual. If you get brave (and you shouldn't) and decide to fly blind, let me give you step #1:

Disconnect the battery. Failure to do so can result in the airbag deploying.
