New to the Board and Ford trucks

I just wanted to say hi to all as I am new to the board. I just inherited a 93 F150 from my late father. It is a 5.0 auto 4x4 reg cab, short bed, pwr options and whats left of original graphite paint. My dad took pretty good care of it as its pretty mechanically sound no leaks, everything works, and somewhere around 75k on the 5.0 around the same on the tranny and 125k on the chassis. No rust as im pretty sure it was a Florida truck its whole life. My mom wanted to sell it but didnt see the point as its still a good truck and since the paint is shot she probably wouldn't get much for it nor does she know how to sell a vehicle. Needs new exhaust as the current setup is pretty rusted out and could use a small lift to better accomodate the 33's that sit under it. I dont know a ton about Ford's although I do know a lil about 5 liters. Anything to be weary of about these trucks?

Not much that can't be done easy with the 5.0, and the transmissions are for the most part fairly strong behind any stock engines. If you have an auto fluid changes are cheap insurance.

Body panels above the rear wheels, towards the rear of the cab, and a couple other places start to go. I've got the famous Ford wheel well rot on my '95.

Just about anything you run into a problem with can be found here on the forums, and chances are a number of people know how to deal with it. Just remember to give as much information as possible when you do have a problem, and you'll probably find an answer fairly quick.

Welcome to the forums, it's a great place. I hardly ever use my truck anymore but still get drawn back to this place.

Howdy and welcome.

Sounds like you got a nice truck, and they are purdy much solid anyway. Most of your 5.0 stang tricks are at home in the F-150 as long as you don't take away any bottom end torque.

The only snag, and a rare one at that, is that the fluid pump for the t-case (BorgWarner 1356) can come loose of the housing, and spin on the input shaft, thus not pumping the oil around. Check the fluid in the t-case, it's often forgotten and only takes like 2 quarts of regular mercon ATF. You need a 3/8 square peg to remove the drain plug (socket extension).

If it's an electric shift t-case, the motors tend to go bad if not used once in a while. If it's a manual, the shifter rusts/seizes. All depends on the climate.

The 5.0 is by far the easiest to mod, just because of all the 'stang parts out there, although IMO it's the motor in most need of hop-ups since it doesn't have much in the low range, not terribly well suited for truck use. The 4.9 I6 and the 5.8 V8 both put peak torque out at much lower RPM.

Your 5.0 should be around 180hp if I remember right in stock form.

These trucks will run forever, just the body rust out from around it. People have over 300k on these trucks before an overhaul.
