Using a trailer with 1991 F-150

I need to start pulling a trailer but with my old truck I'm worried. It won't we that large and I will have the hitch and all, however I do have some problems with my radiator. Is there anything I should do with the radiator or anything else I need to do before I start pulling?

What engine?
Do you have the towing package on it?

I have a 90 150 with 5.0/E4OD/3.55 combo.
The 5.0 is a gutless wonder for towing IMO.
Would be better off with a 4.9 or 5.8.

When I started towing with mine, about a year ago, I added the following:

Towing package radiator from the junkyard.

Aftermarket, B&M tranny cooler.

Air shocks (I know alot of folks don't like them, but they keep the truck
level when towing...)

K&N filter (Not really needed, but I feel warm and fuzzy that the engine
is getting plenty of air...)

Tranny temp gauge. (Used a $15 water temp gauge from Advance...
The electrical sender screwed right into the boss on the side of the trans.)

Installed a 160* stat. (Works fine down south here. Some folks up north cringe at the thought.)

And... I changed all the fluids and filters in the truck, front to back.
Check your lower rad hose. Make sure it isn't spongy feeling AND make
sure it has a spring inside so it won't suck shut under load.
Check your u-joints too... I had to replace mine after only a month of towing.
I am sure they were worn, and towing just brought it to the surface.
Use trailer brakes if you can. The controller is relatively cheap compared to
constant brake pad changes. Also keeps the trailer from pushing you in a quick stop.

Yes - fix it or replace it.

For as cheap as they are, get a new one.

Need more specs on yer truck and what the trailer is.
