(Question about front & rear gears) Happy Thanksgiving!!!
(Question about front & rear gears) Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Yeah, it's me again. I've been out for a while still fooling with the 93' F-150 FlareSide. I got a new transfer case and transmission plus I'm working on a new 302 motor with a little more power. I know the trucks stock gears are 3.08, is the front and read diffs basically the same? I mean is there a 3.08 ring in the front also? I ordered a PowerTrax locker for the rear and I would like to change the 3.08 to 3.55 or 3.73 ratio. So could I just order two 3.55 ring & pinions and put one in the front also? A guy also told me that my transmission might be geared differently and could screw up if I changed to a higher ratio. Is that true? Thanks everyone!
I regeared my truck and the gears are not the same. The gears put in the front are reverse cut. This may not be true with your truck but I would check into it before I bought the gears.
Regearing will not be a problem with the transmission. Your speedometer and odometer will be off.
Remember, if you change the rear you have to change the front. If you don't the change the front, you can't use 4 wheel drive.
