Time for a Tune-Up
Time for a Tune-Up
I'm gonna be ordering a batch of parts from Summit tonight or tomorrow, and figured my truck is probably due for a tune-up. Here's what I'm getting so far:
ACCEL Heavy Duty Distributor Cap and Rotor Kit
Crane PS91 Ignition Coil
Autolite Professional Series Spark Plug Wires
Autolite Copper Core Spark Plugs
Motorcraft Fuel Filter
Bosch Oxygen Sensor
Any suggestions or thoughts? I was going to go with some platinum or iridium plugs, but I've been told these trucks don't do so well with them.
I'm also probably going to run some Sea Foam through it. Would it be better to do it before I change everything to keep from fouling the plugs or the O2 Sensor?

Don't change the oxygen sensors (you have 2 or 3 because you have a MAF engine). They're not a maintenance item, and you're more likely to create problems than solve or prevent any. If your original sensors test bad (according to the Haynes or Ford procedures), then you should change them, but NOT before.
Seafoam before plugs. The rest doesn't really matter, but read the caption of this diagram before you go after that fuel filter.

Hrm, I never realized there was more than one O2 Sensor. I thought that was just the 96+ trucks because they went to OBD II.
Thanks for the fuel line diagram, I was wondering how all that worked.

My '95 only has one sensor. I think the only ones with more are the late in the year trucks that were already OBDII. In either case I don't think it warrants replacement unless it's not testing correctly.

I own a '95 mass air equipped truck, and it has a single O2 sensor.
The parts arrived yesterday (with the exception of the O2 sensor, which I decided against due to your recommendation) and I got around to installing them today. The plugs, cap, and rotor were all in horrible shape, I have no idea how the truck ran as well as it did. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if those were the original parts. The plugs were Motorcraft brand, and they were covered in rust with the gapping all out of wack (it ranged from .060 to .065).
Now that that's out of the way, I guess it's time to start saving for a new exhaust since my muffler is starting to develop a leak. It's always something with these trucks...

There were some oddities. I'm running a '95 F150 4.9L in my '83 (or whatever) Bronco, and it has TAB & TAD on the 2ndry air system. But I put a long block in a '95 F150 a few months ago, and it only had TAB.
