Driver side lock cylinder

Hey guys, on my 93 f150 the D.S. door won't unlock with the key. So now i have to go around to the passenger side and unlock it. Luckily, i have power locks so i just have to hit the button on the pass. door to unlock the driver door. At first i thought the cylinder just went out, so i took the panel off and noticed that the plastic clip that goes on the cylinder had come off. I can see where the clip goes on to the cyl, but when i put it back together & try to turn the key, it just snaps off again! I looked at the other door and i can't figure out what it is that i'm doing wrong. What's going on, is this plastic piece supposed to be able to come on & off of the cylinder?

It's very common for that arm to break. Do a few searches for posts by adrianspeeder about that. If you don't find it here, it's on FSB. He took pics, & posted the PN & price for the replacement arm.

Thanks Steve, i took another look at it and the clip doesn't look broken. I think the rod is bent, but i can't pull it out to straighten it.

Don't mess with the rod - read Adrian's post.

Alright, i got the clip. I took the cylinder out, snapped the clip on, & put the cylinder back in. I got the rod snapped onto the clip, but now it is extremely hard to turn the key. Everything works fine & freely until i snap the rod onto the clip. I really do think the rod is bent, but i can't see the way the rod is bent on the pass side because the window track is right in front of it. I will take my door apart (if i have to), but it can't be this difficult can it?

Try spraying some lube in/on/around/all-over the latch, and then try disconnecting the lock motor. Something is binding, but there's no way the rod is bent wrong.
